Tubing Hanger Seal Isolation with MS-Sealant Malaysia
Challenge
KCI were asked by a Major Oil and Gas operator in South East Asia to provide an isolation on a McEvoy Wellhead. During KCI’s evaluation process the leak was identified in the 7” Tubing Hanger, Lower Body Seal area. Carried out an Inflow Test using A-Annulus pressure of 50psi. Pressure on Lower Test Port was 48psi. This indicated a failure of the Lower Seals that allowed communication from the AAnnulus. This is a Gas Lift Well that was shut-in due to this Well Integrity issue.
Solution
Rigged up KCI’s Test Manifold to Test Port 2. Inject Test. Fluid to verify the Back Pressure & Leak Rate. Activated, Mixed & Deployed 500mls of MS-Sealant 02 (low viscosity sealant) into the damaged seal area.
Achieved a PBU (Pressure Build Up) & isolation. Allow sealant to fully cure under deployment pressure. Once the MS-Sealant 02 had cured, a Leak Off Test was performed at the Injection Port with full Annulus
Pressure from below. Good Test achieved - Zero PBU which satisfied the customers test criteria.
Result
The isolation was successful and the well was brought online safely. Our customer was extremely satisfied with our Safe, Effective & Efficient Isolation. This value adding, rigless isolation operation saved the well owner from a potentially time consuming and costly wellhead strip & repair.
