SPOTLIGHT: Andy Reid

What is your role within the company?

I am the Technical Service Supervisor & Health and Safety Officer at KCI and have been with the company for eight years. I started out as a Technical Service Specialist working at various onshore and offshore locations in the UK and overseas.

What do you like most about working for KCI?

I really enjoy working with a team where everyone is so cooperative and supportive. Working at KCI, I have been provided with opportunities to achieve my career goals whilst being fully encouraged and supported in the process. I used to work for much larger organisations so I found transitioning to KCI which is a much smaller and specialised company than i was used to, quite challenging initially, but I am now thriving here.

What first attracted you to your area of expertise?

My previous experience came from pulling and running completions with Hydraulic Workover Units as well as working on the production side. A downturn in the industry prompted me to look for new opportunities and I was lucky enough to be offered a role with KCI ltd.

What are the values that drive you?

First and foremost is safety. By practicing safe methods of working ensures that jobs can be completed successfully in the first instance and risks are minimised. The importance of practicing safety in the workplace was highlighted in my first role in the oil and gas industry and has stuck with me ever since.

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

My family, providing the best life possible for my fiancée and 2 wonderful children.

What’s something about you that not a lot of people know?

When I was in the Navy, the chancellor at the time, Gordon Brown, visited the ship and came into the control room where I was on watch. We started a conversation about where I was from and he told me that his parent’s lived nearby. He then asked if I enjoyed serving in the Navy,

and much to the accompanying officer’s embarrassment I said, “no, I hate it but they wont let me out!” He then wished me all the best and was swiftly ushered off!

Describe yourself in three words…

Driven, competitive and caring

What are your hobbies/what do you do on the weekends?

Some folk would say I’m pretty handy with a pool cue! I currently play in the Inverurie Pool League. I also play Golf although I gave up my membership during COVID but aim to join my local club again this year. Although I’m getting on, I still love gaming and could easily lose hours in front of the PC. Other than that I love spending quality time with the family.
