The True Cost of Cutting Corners

In the sector of oil and gas well integrity and intervention, the need for precision and reliability is Imperative. We have encountered many cases of customers initially opting for, seemingly economical sealant solutions for their operations.

One client, in particular, experienced an 80% failure rate across 12 wells with a competitor company, compelling them to turn to KCI to resolve these issues.

This serves as a stark reminder that the cheapest option is not always the best. KCI stands at the forefront, offering a fully engineered solution that encompasses procedures, tooling, sealant, and personnel, all backed by 24/7 onshore support.

Here we share insights from recent projects that underscore our belief in the importance of choosing quality over cost-cutting solutions every time…

1)      Recently, a customer attempted to isolate an X-Bushing on a well in Southeast Asia using various sealants, only to face failure. We injected our speciality sealant, successfully repairing the leak, and demonstrating the efficacy of our fully engineered solution in rectifying the issues that stumped our competition.

 2)      In another example, on one of our first jobs in the Middle East for a major national energy company, involved a control line leak that a competitor had attempted and failed to resolve. Despite changing packings to Swellables, the WRDHSV continued to leak. KCI successfully isolated the leak, bringing the well online, and continuing to highlight the reliability of our interventions.

3)      Another instance involved isolating a tubing hanger void on a UKCS platform after a competitor's sealant failed. We were contracted to help resolve the issue and installed a hollow tie-down bolt to inject our speciality sealant, providing a successful resolution. While there’s a potential need for repeated interventions due to the initial sealant breakdown, our expertise ensures timely and effective solutions whenever required.

The takeaway? Quality pays off.

The initial allure of cheap alternatives often leads to unforeseen challenges, resulting in increased expenditures of time and money. These real-life examples underscore the importance of investing in quality from the start.

Choosing KCI means opting for a fully engineered solution that minimises risks, reduces downtime, and ensures long-term success.  Don’t let short-term cost savings jeopardise the integrity of your wells.
